Phase 1 Refurbishment of Weston Museum
Weston Town Council
We worked with the Council and their design team to undertake a captivating refurbishment of Weston Museum.
The refurbishment included the installation of a historically sensitive new atrium roof, along with substantial internal redesign and fit-out. The project involved major structural, mechanical, and electrical work, incorporating a new foyer, commercial kitchen, and a lift for enhanced accessibility.
Various aspects received meticulous attention. The atrium glass roof was removed and replaced, the underground drainage was remodelled, and the wood block flooring underwent careful lifting and re-laying with patch repairs where necessary. The café was revamped with a wood counter and new lighting.
To improve accessibility, a lift was installed, accompanied by new balcony walkways. The rewiring project encompassed both standard lighting and sensitive lighting for the museum exhibits. Replacement windows, fire doors, and a comprehensive security and alarm system were also installed.
The refurbishment paid homage to the original character of the museum, sensitively updating the toilets while retaining their charm. Additionally, a separate project involved fitting a commercial kitchen with a complete rewiring for lighting and catering equipment.
Weston Museum’s refurbishment successfully merged historical preservation and modern enhancements, elevating the visitor experience.
SEE MONSTER - access and handrails
Newsubstance part of Unboxed supported by Weston Town Council
SEE MONSTER is a retired rig from the North Sea, transformed into one of the UK’s largest public art installations to inspire global conversations about reuse, renewables and the great British weather.
We were a partner in this ambitious project carrying out enabling works and ensuring the access and safety rails were suitable and adequate for use by the hundreds of thousands of visitors.
Parts of the structure such as the Solar Tree and Wind Nest have been donated to local projects, and the Garden Lab’s trees and plants will be reused by North Somerset Council in their parks and public spaces.
